Personally I am really excited to finally be at this stage in my film career. I see these lenses matching my storyboards already.
I went on a limb and purchased the 30mm and was instantly in love with the image from the BMCC6k. It is a very clean image but the feel and control of my focus just felt right. With that said, when I saw an opportunity for 3 more lenses I jumped on it.
In my set is the 15, 30, 45 and 150mm(Macro). As the weight might change very slightly. You will still have a consistent focus ring, aperture ring and filter thread. Which ideal for being effeciant on sets. I have not had these lense on a gimbal yet but irix does advertise them as easy to management on a gimbal.
These lenses are complete metal and you can feel it. The weight is nice for handheld work. I am happy to see the measurements marked on both sides.
Rest assured these lenses are weather proof as well. If you are brave enough to film in the rain.
I went with the PL because a lesson that took me too long to understand was "Marry the lenses not the camera!". We will talk more about that in an upcoming creative chat but the PL is very versatile and can mount to almost any modern camera. Which makes this a future proof purchase.
Once you go full frame you cant go back. Look, I have shot primarily on super35 and its the standard for many reasons but Full frame allows for so much more opportunity from on set framing and reframing in post. These lenses will cover full frame and super35 without an issue.
I will be shooting more with these lenses at T1.5 but here is a Day 1 test with these lenses in a low light environment. I really enjoyed the look of the time lapse.
I recommend these lenses to any filmmaker that is serious about their craft and balling on a budget. These lenses will cost you around $1200 each. Compared to the Sigma Primes thats not bad.
These lenses can be purchased at Irix USA or Rent at Carolina Lens Rentals.
